Gross Motor in the Wild: Part 1 – Bubble Chase
Who knew a bottle of bubbles could double as a physical therapy activity?
Blowing and popping bubbles is one of our favorite outdoor games because it works on so many developmental skills while feeling like pure fun.
As your child chases bubbles, they're practicing running, changing directions, stopping, reaching overhead, squatting, jumping, and stomping—all important gross motor skills. Popping bubbles also challenges hand-eye coordination, visual tracking, reaction time, and balance as children adjust their bodies to reach bubbles floating at different heights.
Want to make it even more fun? Try giving your child different challenges:
Pop bubbles with one finger.
Jump to reach the highest bubbles.
Stomp the bubbles that land on the ground.
Balance on one foot before popping the next bubble.
The best part? Your child just thinks they're playing outside while they're building strength, coordination, balance, and motor planning—all through play.
