Silly & Interactive Christmas Books Kids Love: Part 2

Last blog we wrote about our passion for Christmas books and how you can never have enough. This post, we’ll continue our conversation about different stories and books to consider getting at your local library or bookstore (hint, hint - that means Amazon for me!). These are perfect for: preschoolers, kids who love humor, and children practicing comments.
Funny Christmas books help build spontaneous language because kids want to react!

💬 Language & AAC Targets

  • Core words for silliness: NO!, DON'T!, STOP!, GO!, HELP!, LOOK!

  • Emotion vocabulary: excited, silly, loud, quiet

  • Rhythm and repetition for motor planning

  • Early commenting: “That’s funny,” “More please,” “Do it again!”

🎨 Activity Pairings

  • Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh! → Model “NO” + gesture; great advocacy practice!

  • Llama Llama Jingle Bells → Use real jingle bells; let child request MORE BELL or LOUD/QUIET. These bells (or these) are helpful to keep in your Christmas book box!

  • Pete the Cat Saves Christmas → Model “I CAN DO IT!” and “TRY.”

  • Christmas Parade → March and label instruments; model LOUD/QUIET.

  • Moo, Baa, Fa La La La La → Practice animal sounds + core (LOOK, AGAIN, FUNNY).

While these books might seem like they are only for toddlers, don’t be fooled that your slightly older child doesn’t want to try to read it to YOU the following year or maybe read it to a younger sibling or cousin. These books truly just become staples in the house and great memories.
